6 Ways to Virtually Celebrate National Library Week

National Library Week. Find the library at your place

National Library Week is here! From April 19 – 25, library staff and users across the country are celebrating the countless ways that libraries promote access to information for all. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has forced libraries to close their doors to the public, their staff are still working hard to serve their communities in this time of crisis, through virtual resources, online programs, and access to the internet.

This National Library Week, be sure to explore the virtual materials your library has to offer, as well as spreading the word about why libraries matter. Here are a few of our favorite ways to observe NLW:

Say #ThankYouLibraries

Has a library or librarian made a difference in your life? Let them know by posting Instagram, Twitter, or on the I Love Libraries Facebook page using the hashtag #ThankYouLibraries and tagging your library. As an added incentive to take part, the American Library Association will randomly select one winner to receive a $100 Visa gift card.

Visit Your Library’s Website

Check out what your library has to offer, from eBooks, audiobooks, and movies to virtual programs and digital reference services. Don’t have a library card yet? See if you can get one online—many libraries have started granting digital library cards during the pandemic.

Become a Library Advocate

Signing up for action alerts from the American Library Association is an easy way to stay informed about policy and funding issues affecting libraries across the country. When libraries need advocates like you to call or email public officials, they’ll send you a script to add your voice in favor of America’s libraries.

Explore Libraries Around the World

In addition to what your library has to offer, you can also discover online resources from other amazing libraries around the world. Try checking out digital collections from awesome archives, take virtual tours of stunning library architecture, or add some flair to your next conference call with these library zoom backgrounds.

Shop Some Library Swag

Treat yourself to some awesome library-themed merch, like this coloring book, mason jar, or anti-censorship tote bag. The best part? A portion of the proceeds from all these products supports the American Library Association’s library advocacy efforts.
