Who uses libraries today?
Everyday, people of all ages, backgrounds and professions from rural, suburban and urban communities turn to their libraries for a whole host of reasons:
- Professionals and students at colleges, universities and research institutions use the library to find books and journal articles, use electronic resources and consult with librarians to write papers and further groundbreaking research.
- Students use their school libraries to find their favorite books, log on to the Internet, get help with papers and meet with other students to work on projects.
- Job seekers use the library and its tools to hone resumes and secure job leads. Seniors use the library to learn new computer skills. Kids use the library to join summer reading programs. And people who are new to this country use the library to take English classes.
- People in rural communities use library resources, such as online databases and the Internet, to connect with the world outside of their immediate geographic area.
- People of all ages and backgrounds use the library to relax with a book or grab a DVD.
