Myrna was nominated by Lloyd Benjamin, who wrote: “Myrna has transformed the library into a center for learning ‘without walls’ that fulfills its academic mission and extends it to the community.” She has, for example, set up programs to help faculty and students make better use of the library, and then extended that training to K-through-12 students. She spearheaded a reconfiguration of the library space, to make it a more appealing place for everyone, and helped other areas of the university set up satellite operations there, such as the Career Center’s kiosk, enabling students to explore career options, arrange interviews and more. She even set up an innovative program assigning a staff librarian to each incoming freshman – resulting in more students using the library than ever before. She is always looking for ways to enhance services, and we hope today we have found one small way to enhance HER life. We are delighted to honor Myrna McCallister.
