NYT Librarian of the Year 2006 - Anthony Loum

Anthony Loum
Coordinator of Adult Services
Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn, NY
Anthony was nominated by Olutosin Mustapha, who wrote: “He inspired all of us.” By “all of us,” Olutosin was referring to the young people and guests who attended the Poetry Day ceremonies hosted by Olutosin’s organization, Afro Heritage Venture, which provides a range of services to the community. Anthony had accepted the organization’s invitation to speak about the importance of education at the event, and his words had an impact on everyone there. But Anthony is a librarian who has always been having an impact on people’s lives, whether he was forging stronger reading habits coordinating adult book clubs, or showing infinite patience in helping patrons become computer literate. Today we honor Anthony Loum.
