Meet a winner of the national I Love My Librarian Award
Nominations are now open through September 20 for the 2010 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award. The award really is a big deal: up to 10 librarians in public, school, college, community college and university libraries nationwide will win $5,000 and be honored at an award reception in New York, hosted by The New York Times.
The 2010 winners will be announced in December. In the meantime, let’s take a look back at previous years’ winners. Here is Dwight McInvaill of Georgetown, South Carolina, who won the award in 2009.

How did a library in a rural county with a population of 60,000 end up being one of four to be featured in a short documentary about innovative libraries and also have a digitization project that is a model in its state, all while being the pride of its community? The answer: Dwight McInvaill’s contagious enthusiasm and willingness to take on risk. Despite his accomplishments, Dwight does not believe in resting on his laurels. As one nominator said, “The Georgetown County Library System under Dwight’s leadership continues to grow and evolve, driven always by an awareness of the important role that a library can play for the citizens of the county.”
