Congratulations to this year’s I Love My Librarian Award winners!

Meet the 10 honorees selected from more than 1,950 nominations submitted by library users nationwide. They include a librarian who expands resources for tribal college libraries, a librarian who creates accessible programs for special needs children and their families, and a librarian who inspires underserved high school students to reach their full academic potential.

Librarians touch the lives of the people they serve every day.  The I Love My Librarian Award encourages library users like you to recognize the accomplishments of exceptional public, school, college, community college, or university librarians. Each year 10 librarians are selected. Each librarian receives a $5,000 cash award, a plaque, and a travel stipend to attend an awards ceremony and reception held in their honor.

Each nominee must be a librarian with a master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association in library and information studies or a master’s degree with a specialty in school library media from an educational unit accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Nominees must be currently working in the United States in a public library, a library at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or at an accredited K-12 school. The philanthropic foundation Carnegie Corporation of New York generously sponsors the I Love My Librarian Award. The New York Public Library and the New York Times are co-sponsors of the award. The ALA administers the award through ALA’s Communications and Marketing Office, which promotes the value of libraries and librarians.

Since the award was established in 2008, 120 librarians have received this distinguished honor.  In that time, library users nationwide have shared more than 20,000 nominations detailing how librarians have gone above and beyond to connect them to information, educational opportunities, and critical technology.
