Ginny Norris Blackson

Managing Associate Dean/Head of Collection Development & Management
James E. Brooks Library, Central Washington University
Ellensburg, Washington

Ginny is an invaluable resource for instructors and learners alike

Due to her deep commitment to service, Ginny has turned the library into a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all students, particularly those with diverse backgrounds and needs.

She established the Family Study Space, a dedicated area in the library that welcomes community members with young children.

Ginny has also expanded the library’s collections to be more inclusive. Through a grant, she acquired library materials dealing with LGBTQ issues. She received additional funding to purchase resources representing Hispanic history and culture.

Ginny is known on campus for bringing people together. It was her idea to serve students Belgian waffles at night in the library during finals week, an event which quickly became a beloved annual tradition for students, faculty and staff. During Banned Books Week, she holds events throughout campus and the community to bring attention to the dangers of censorship.

During Women’s History Month, she worked with students, faculty and staff to produce radio clips about notable women to air on the campus radio station.

Her nominator declared Ginny “is a powerhouse of ideas, gumption and action” and that she’s “the colleague everyone wishes they could have.”
