About the ALA Library
Established in 1924, the Library of the American Library Association houses a very special collection of books and other materials that focuses exclusively on the history of and issues within libraries and librarianship. Although the primary mission of the ALA Library is to assist the staff of the American Library Association with research and information to support the programs of the American Library Association and serve ALA members, the Library's staff will respond to reference and information requests in accordance with its mission and collection scope.
However, correspondents are encouraged to use local and online sources, such as those listed on the Library Reference, Research, and Resources web page at http://www.ala.org/librariantools. Please note that the scope of services does not include extensive background research for graduate projects, compilation of bibliographies and recommended reading lists, requests for information connected with contests, or completion of school or work assignments; please contact your local library, whether public, school, corporate or university, for assistance with these services.
